Elementary Science Investigative Fair

Ever wondered which popcorn pops the best? Or, what fertilizer works the best? Do you know which airplane design stays in the air the longest? These are the types of questions that Science students from Fort Worth ISD’s 83 elementary schools will be answering in the annual Investigative Fair.

The event will be held Thursday, May 17 at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center, 5201 C.A. Roberson.  Public viewing begins at 6 p.m., with the awards program at 7 p.m.

Students have developed "testable questions" and conducted either descriptive, comparative or exploratory investigations. The summary of their research will be displayed on science fair boards for all to see.

“They make observations and collect data using several trials, then think on the meaning that the data has, put it into a table and try to graph it and come to a valid conclusion that answers the question and proves or disproves the hypothesis,” said Science Specialist Shannon Wilson. “We have some brilliant students in the making.”

The 1st place District winners for each grade level, 2-5, will receive a trophy and have their projects displayed at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History from May 18-20, 2012. Students and their families will also attend a reception on May 19 at the Museum. This will be the first time the students’ scientific research will be displayed for the public.

How does salt affect plant growth? Which battery lasts the longest? The answers await you at the Elementary Science Investigative Fair!
