Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program in all Fort Worth schools that motivates students to read more books. It offers a goal-setting and reward program for students to read as many books on their level as possible. They take a short test on questions specific to the book they read. The test measures their comprehension and understanding of what they have read. Children are excited to read more and more books to earn higher and higher points. All children, even PreKindergarten students, can participate in the program.
Our new "Under Water" theme at Western Hills Primary was just recently announced: Make a Splash with Reading. Students who reach their first point goal will receive a "dog-tag" style necklace. Students will also have their name announced on the speaker as they reach each new goal. Students advancing to their next goal will add a reading charm to the necklace.
Come on, Let's READ!!!!
