Fort Worth ISD District Walk

The 7th Annual Fort Worth ISD District Walk was a smashing success - with at least 2,482 people walking a total of 4,251 miles on Saturday, May 12.  That's an increase in participants of 215 percent over last year!

The annual physical fitness event grew year-to-year at each of the District's 13 high schools.  There were 788 participants in 2011.

"We hope that this is just the beginning of a community who makes the right choice to be active!" said Georgi Roberts, director of Health and Physical Education.  "The only way that we're going to see change is if we change the culture."

A total of 81 people participated at Western Hills High School.

Students, employees, family members, community members and everyone who values the positive health benefits of walking were invited to participate.

This year, a $10,000 donation from the Humana Foundation helped the District provide more publicity, bottled water, bus transportation, promotional T-shirts and even incentives to schools with the highest percentage of participation.
