Mrs. Carmen Elena Morales is the Washington Heights Elementary School Teacher of the Year for 2011-2012. She is originally from San Salvador, El Salvador and completing her 21^st year in Pre-Kindergarten, 15^th year with FWISD.  She teaches because she absolutely loves every minute she devotes to the profession.  She enjoys preparing purposeful and meaningful lessons that her students enjoy.  She loves meeting parents and encouraging them to support their kids from the very first day in Pre-K until they reach their farthest educational goal.  She learns from her students every day.  When the school year ends, she enjoys and savors her students’ success and is proud of how much they have progressed and learned.

Her job does not start or end in the classroom because once her students finish Pre-K, she makes sure they know she supports them whenever they need her.  Not only does she get to know her students, but she also becomes well acquainted with their families.    Mrs. Morales makes herself available for parents too, and she wants them to know that if they need help translating documents, setting up appointments, finding medical (or other types) of assistance for their household, she will be there to try her best to help them out.  She helps other teachers, especially the new ones coming into our profession, as well as the Early Childhood and Bilingual Departments.  It is her goal to teach in the FWISD for several more years to come.
