Summary: The Fort Worth ISD Department of Student Engagement is collaborating with the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) by hosting two Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® programs for middle school students.

CDF Freedom Schools are held all over the nation. In Texas, there are CDF Freedom Schools in Houston, Beaumont and Galveston and now Fort Worth ISD has its first program.

The programs are being held at Rising Star Baptist Church (RSBC) and Trimble Tech High School (TTHS) from June 18 – July 27, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. RSBC will host seventh graders and TTHS will host eighth graders.

The CDF Freedom Schools program provides summer enrichment through a model curriculum that supports:

·High quality academic enrichment

·Parent and family involvement

·Civic engagement and social action

·Intergenerational leadership development

·Nutrition, health and mental health

The CDF Freedom Schools program is designed to boost student motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities.

Enrollment opportunities are still available at both locations listed above. If you would like to get your seventh grade or eighth grade child involved, you may contact Danna Diaz at 817-814-2930.
