Principal - Gayla Dawson
Ms. Dawson just finished her 28th year as an educator and her 6th year as a high school principal. Before becoming an administrator, she was an English teacher and also Staff Developer for Writing for FWISD. She has taught in Louisiana, Maryland and Texas.
She received her undergraduate degree and M.Ed. in English from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana and her Master’s Degree in Administration from UTA.
Ms. Dawson lives with her husband, Chuck, and their Doberman, Zoe. She has four grown children and five beautiful grandchildren.

Assistant Principal - Jack Henson
During his fifteenth years as an educator, Mr. Henson has worked for Amarillo ISD and Fort Worth ISD, serving the last five years as Assistant Principal here at Southwest High School. While a teacher and orchestra director in Fort Worth, he also worked as a curriculum writer for Fort Worth ISD. He received both his Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Mr. Henson is married with four children and enjoys spending time with family and his church.

Assistant Principal - Cathy Ridley
Ms. Ridley became an assistant principal at Southwest in 2008. Before making the move to administration, she worked for 10 years in Fort Worth ISD as a special education teacher at Dunbar, Eastern Hills, and Southwest. She also coached track, basketball, volleyball, and softball. Her education credits consist of a BS in Special Education from the University of Central Okalahoma (1997) and an ME in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University (2007). She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership at Tarleton State University. Ms. Ridley is the proud mother of daughter, Fallyn.

Assistant Principal - Katrina Smith
Mrs. Smith is a Louisiana native who became an educator fourteen years ago. She began her educational career in Dallas ISD where she was a math teacher, Head Soccer Coach, Head Track Coach and Assistant Volleyball Coach for four years. In 2001, she moved to FWISD to work at Polytechnic High School. While at Poly, she was the Special Education Department Chair, Head Softball Coach and Assistant Volleyball Coach. In 2005, she transferred to Metro Opportunity High School to take on the leadership role as an Assistant Principal Intern before she became an Assistant Principal at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School in January 2007.
Mrs. Smith earned her undergraduate degree from Grambling State University in 1997. While at Grambling, she was the captain of the Lady Tiger Volleyball Team where she led to the team to two championships and was named Most Valuable Player of the Southwestern Athletic Conference for two consecutive years. She also became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. In 2005, she earned her M. Ed in Educational Leadership Policies & Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Mrs. Smith has been married to her husband, Mytron, for fourteen years and has two beautiful children, Kalyn and Lawson. |
