Oaklawn Makes Recognized

For the 2008-09 school year, Oaklawn made recognized status according to Texas Education Agency accountability measuring system. Oaklawn is the first PEAK school to reach recognized status, rising in one year from unacceptable to recognized. Students in all subgroups showed remarkable growth in all academic subjects. Teachers, administrators and students worked hard to reach their goals.

Eighty eight percent of the students in grades 3 to 5 passed their reading TAKS, up eight percent from the previous year. In math, 86% of all students grades 3 to 5 passed the TAKS, an increase of six percent from the year before. In writing, 97% of fourth students passed the TAKS, a twelve percent increase. Finally, in science, 77% percent of fifth graders passed the TAKS, an increase in 2% from the year before.

Other gains were reflected in other areas. For example, attendance was over 98% all year. Also, the school has one of the highest inclusion rates in the district, integrating special education students into the general classroom.

Congratulations to all!
