Oaklawn Elementary participates in the Accelerated Reader program. Every six weeks, students in 1st-5th grade take an online reading test to determine their individual reading level. After the level is calculated, students know their reading level and are able to select books that are challenging but not frustrating to read. After they read a book, they are able to take an online comprehension test about the book. Each book has a point value and a student that scores a 100 on the test will receive the full points available for that book. Points are tracked for 3rd-5th inside the library. There are eight vines hanging in the library, one for each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class. Each student has a monkey with their name on it that hangs at the corresponding point marker. Points are monitored and monkeys moved once per week. There are charts outside the library door that track points in the 1st and 2nd grade classes. Students who meet their point goal at the end of each six weeks are able to participate in reward activities. There is also a super vine above the circulation for any student in the school that earns over 100 points. Come visit our beautiful library!
