The children at East Handley Elementary School will soon be turning learning inside out – from math and science to language arts and social studies.
On Saturday, February 4, students from the school, along with parents, teachers, neighbors and volunteers from Chesapeake Energy Corporation, brought the learning garden to life.

As a key component of the school's three-year partnership with REAL School Gardens, the garden will be used as an outdoor classroom to boost children’s academic achievement, particularly in math and science, as well as their understanding of healthy lifestyles, their social development, and their care for the natural environment.
The garden was designed by the community at a school event in December and will feature wildlife habitats, an earth science station, organic vegetable beds, composting station, rainwater harvesting and more. REAL School Gardens will now launch an intensive, multi-touch training program aimed at helping faculty use the garden as an impactful teaching resource.
The learning garden at East Handley Elementary is made possible through the generous support of Chesapeake Energy Corporation.
