AVID is a 4th through 12th grade system to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap.
The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle will: succeed in rigorous curriculum, complete a rigorous college preparatory path, enter mainstream activities of the school, and become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society. AVID elective teachers support these students in socializing intelligence as they focus on academic rigor using WICR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading,) study skills, learning goal setting, organization, and time-management. Students succeed in Pre-AP and AP courses and apply for and enroll in 4-year colleges.
