Contreras' Art Program

The art classes at Alice D. Contreras combine core curriculum objectives with a discipline-based art program based on national, state, and local standards. Studies consistently show that children who study art perform better in other academic areas. Here at Contreras, we strive to instill a love of art and to build a strong foundation in the study of visual arts.
Students are taught the elements and principles of art while learning about science, social studies, math, and reading. Students from Kindergarten through 5th grade learn about materials, techniques, and processes while exploring how visual arts, history, and culture influence each other. Personal expression is fostered as we learn why people make art. Every spring, students proudly display their work in the annual FWISD Elementary Art Show.
