It’s time to break out your Longhorn burnt orange, Aggie maroon or Raider red.  Or perhaps you’re more the Mean Green or Horned Frog purple type?

Friday, August 31, is College Colors Day across the nation and in the Fort Worth Independent School District.

College Colors Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging people across America to wear apparel of their favorite college or university throughout the day.

“We have celebrated this day for the last four years,” says Dr. Anita Perry, Director for Academic Advisement for Fort Worth ISD.  “We distributed information to all counselors – elementary, as well as middle school and high school – in our Back to School trainings.”

The counselors, in turn, encourage students of all grades to show their college-bound intentions by wearing the colors of their favorite college or university.

College Colors Day, which coincides with “back to school” and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics, strives to advocate higher education through increased public awareness, and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities, acknowledging their fundamental importance.

Since its inception in 2005, College Colors Day has grown rapidly across the country. Thousands of organizations and millions of individuals participate annually by donning their team colors and sharing in the college spirit with friends and colleagues.

Also this month, more than 5,000 high school students, along with their parents, are expected to attend Fort Worth ISD’s 2012 annual “College Night” on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Amon Carter Exhibits Hall.
